Stephen Wiltshire
When Stephen Wiltshire was three years old, he was mute and was diagnosed as autistic. When he went to school at the age of five, the adults around him realized that he liked to draw. His teachers encouraged his ‘talent’ and he became more and more talented. He is best known for his powerful eidetic memory, better known as ‘photographic memory.’ He is able to accurately draw out a subject that he has only viewed for a short period of time. For example, he drew a panoramic picture of the city of Tokyo after a short helicopter ride over the city. The drawing was 10 meters long. In fact, after a helicopter ride in Rome, he was able to draw the number of columns on the Pantheon! In 2006, Stephen became a Member of the Order of the British Empire for services to art.
